The Main Event

Hunter's birthday isn't until Thursday, but we wanted to take advantage of the long weekend and had his party on Sunday. We had the party at MeMa's house (that's Brent's mom) in Round Top for two reasons - one, our house is on the market and we didn't want to have to turn down a showing if we were in the middle of the party and two, it was a farm/barnyard party and where better to have such a party than the farm???

Here are some pictures of the main event.

We got the firetruck ride-on toy out as soon as humanly possible because it was loads of fun for everyone. (Thanks Grandmommy!)

The following pic was the best one we got of him on his new rocking horse. I don't know if we got video or not, but he was a natural at bucking on his bronco (thanks Mema!!).

If you can't tell, the animals are cookies, the fence is pretzels, and the rest is cake and tons of icing. This was an all-day project for Mommy, but WELL worth it. Hunter's piece was the sun, which seemed much more pale yellow the night before, but ended up looking like mustard when it was officially all over him. He did not know what to think at first - "Mommy, what have you put in front of me!!!???!" Once he tasted it though, he was hooked. His hands were in his mouth most of the time, but we had to ask him how big he was so that he could get it all into his hair. It was really a blast! I'll upload a video (or two) as soon as I have the time.

We had to take a break for a quick bath (obviously one was needed). Then we had some more time with the family before everyone had to leave. It was a great day and we are so grateful that our families could join us.

These are Hunter's cousins, from left - Colin, Chase and Kaiya.

May Birthdays (continued)

My twin neices, Chase and Kaiya, turned 8 last Saturday, May 10th. I didn't get as many pics as I would have liked to, but here are some and a video of everyone playing at the cheer gym where the party was held in Temple, Texas.

That is Colin, the twins' little brother (not so little actually!!).

The video below shows some limbo action with Chase, Kaiya, one of their friends, and Colin, then Kristi bouncing Hunter on the trampoline (did I mention my legs were sore the next day after very little bouncing? Very sad and pathetic actually). Finally, Uncle Patrick and Hunter crawling around the gym.

Hunter's Surgery

Hunter had tubes put in his ears today and also had his adenoids removed. The doctor said afterward that it was a really good thing that we did it now - his adenoids were very enlarged, and there was lots of fluid behind his eardrums. We haven't noticed too much difference in his voice, although he's a bit hoarse and has quite a cough. No telling how much better he is hearing now - we'll check that out in a month when he has a follow up appt with Dr. Albright (I highly recommend him, btw).

Hunter's recovery was a bit more difficult because of the adenoidectomy and because he's only 11 months old and the anesthesia is tough on such a little guy. I don't think he actually opened his eyes before around 10:00 (surgery began at 7:45 and we were back in the recovery room with him by 8:15 - very fast). He just kept going in and out, and when he was awake, he was crying. They gave him morphine (twice - not good) and it didn't do anything except make the recovery longer, I think. We finally asked if we could give him formula around 10:30 because we knew he had to be starving. For some reason, I had it in my head that we could only give clear fluids - they said to go for it and he sucked 4 oz down pretty quickly, and then back to sleep. When he woke up the next time he was obviously doing much better.

So we got out of there around 11:00 - total of 5 hours at Texas Children's Clinical Care Unit. The only picture we got was this one unfortunately, although I may take some pictures of his war wounds before they heal up - he's got marks from the pads they had on his chest, the IV in his hand, and the oxygen tube at the corner of his mouth. He looks pretty rough!! This was a before picture, in his cute hospital pj's, which he wore nearly all day.

First "Official" Haircut

I took Hunter to see Angela on Thursday evening for a haircut. He would not sit still, not surprisingly, but at least it isn't straggly along his forehead anymore and doesn't hang over his ears. I couldn't get him to look at me to take a picture, except this one pic.

But since I had the camera handy at bath time, I couldn't resist the other pictures.

Pray for us!!

Hunter is getting tubes in his ears tomorrow morning, so please pray for us.

I will also post some pictures later tonight of Hunter's first haircut. We're going tonight after work. Should be an experience!!!

May is the time for birthdays!!!

And guess who gets to start it off??? Jake!!! He turned 6 today. Poor little guy used to be the center of our universe and now we barely even remembered his birthday. To make it up to him, he gets his very own post to our blog. :)

(it's nearly impossible to get rid of the "red-eye" problem when you take a picture of a dog...)

Correction...

I don't know what I was thinking, or not thinking. I posted video earlier this week of Hunter feeding himself from a spoon and said that he had just started, when in fact, he did this in early April, just after he turned 10 months old! It completely slipped my mind because I never did post any pics or video for his 10 month birthday.

So, here are some more videos from early April - Hunter saying dada, Hunter feeding himself broccoli rice casserole (Tin Roof - yum!) and Hunter showing us how big he is. Adorable!!
